Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Denise Whitfield

My name is Denise Whitfield and I am excited to serve as Slocomb Middle School's principal.  I have worked in the field of education for 29 years.  Some of my past experiences include working as a speech language pathologist, special education teacher, director of a therapeutic school, school administrator, and special education coordinator for a school district.  I have a bachelor's degree in Communication Science Disorders from the University of Montevallo, a master's degree in Special Education with emphasis on Autism and Emotional & Behavior Disorders from Auburn University, and certification in Educational Leadership from Troy University.

I am married to Wes Whitfield, agriscience teacher and baseball coach at Slocomb High School.  We have four children.  Caroline is married to Ralls and they have a beautiful daughter, Aubrey.  Payne is a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.  Grayson and Wesleigh Jane are in college.  We all love animals, making one another laugh, and spending holidays together.

I am a lifelong learner.  I enjoy school so much that I came out of retirement to be a part of Slocomb Middle School's team of educators.  I take my responsiblity as a leader seriously.  My mission is to support students, families, and teachers.  I cannot wait to watch our students achieve and our community grow!
